WKU news
Based on what I have
read, WKU news tends to favor stories that deal with issues or events that strongly
relate to the university or the state of Kentucky and the city of Bowling
Green. Most of the stories I found were a mix of “soft news” and “hard news”
such as how there were stories about casual events, a long-range forecast that
bodes well for “white squirrel weather” and Subway at Bates is in the top 25 of
Subway’s national in the Win Like a Boss incentive promotion. Some “hard stories”,
however, included increased woes regarding the decline of WKU’s budget due to a
decreased enrollment and this concerning story also appeared in the local
Bowling Green newspaper.
I think that WKU news
covers a wide array of stories over the entire local area, not just events
regarding campus activities. The press releases certainly seem to me like they’re
being done at an adequate rate with the team’s current staff as there no major
news stories going on the they missed, or at least that I know of. The current relationship
between public relations and WKU journalism is a good one as of now. The news
team didn’t put focus on any absurd stories and certainly not without putting the
proper attention on “hard news” stories that the public needs to know;
especially young students such as myself who are new to the community of WKU
and Bowling Green.
